Executing an Effective Slapshot

Harder than any other hockey shot, the slapshot (or “slap shot”) is a fast and wild maneuver that can generate a puck speed of over 100mph. The technique requires a powerful downward swing on the stick with the blade brushing firmly against the ice prior to striking the puck, building tension that is then released against the puck. Certainly one of the most exciting aspects of the game, the slapshot is traditionally less accurate unless perfectly implemented. It’s not too late to join the Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month!
For this season’s month-long initiative, the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) have partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Prostate Cancer Canada, ZERO – The Project to End Prostate Cancer and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to raise funds and awareness for this important cause. Superstars… Move Over For Superheroes

Faster than a speeding puck, more powerful than a defensemen… POW! BANG!… GOAL??? … Did I go too far? Ok, I’ll stop now.
The NHL has plenty of superstars, but now they will get superheroes! In an effort to attract and excite young hockey fans, the NHL is now partnering with former Marvel Comics publisher, Stan Lee. The legend behind such beloved superheroes as the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man, will now create an animated superhero to represent each of the league’s 30 teams. The countdown finally begins for hockey fans across the nation (well… 2 nations actually)! With 5 games being played Thursday, October 7, 2010, and teams battling it out the rest of the weekend, the season is so close we can almost touch it!
