We got our hands on the new CCM Resistance Helmet today and wanted to give it the old sniff test… So here goes nothing.

First off, I’m a Bauer boy mostly and have been for a long time. I’ve been using essentially the same helmet for way too long now (Bauer 5000, 5500 and currently 7500). Upon opening this bad boy, I’m struck by the metallic packaging (I’m all about being flashy) and we’re off to a good start. Disclaimer: I didn’t at point in this process actually sniff the helmet—maybe tomorrow. Once I got it out, I’m struck by its simplicity. Low-profile, lightweight (whatever that means nowadays) and the padding inside looks simple, or exactly what I thought it would look like with the R.E.D System and Impact Pods.

Me and CCM have never seen eye to eye on fit. Their helmets have always felt too short and wide for my tiny head. But the Resistance fit like a glove. Once I figured out the adjustment system, I dialed it in to a perfect fit relatively quick. No negative space to my knowledge and no extreme pressure points. It actually got me thinking I have a nasty pressure point on my forehead with the 7500. So overall fit 1 through 10, I’d give it a 9.

I’ve got to admit, I missed the helmet presentation by CCM so I may have missed the part on the adjustment system. I didn’t quite get it at first, you have to press a button before you can open up the flap. Then, once it’s “open” you have to pretty much set it on your lap and use two hands to carefully and evenly open or close it (note: it’s been brought to my attention that not everyone makes sure it clicks open the same amount on each side, so technically this could still be an easy on-head adjustment). The act of adjusting has to be my only pet peeve so far. The adjustment itself opens and closes from the back unlike most all other helmets that open on the sides, now you’re not just adjusting the overall length of the fit. You’re evenly wrapping it around your head, which is something my 7500 can’t do. I like this a lot, it allows for an extremely personalized fit.

That’s it for now, I’ll check back in after an hour or two of actual usage of the.
