Pittsburgh Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby, donned skates for the first time since being sidelined with a concussion 10 weeks ago. Limited to stickhandling around cones and shooting a few pucks, Crosby is far from being ready to return. His 15 minute practice gives no guarantee that he will play again this season. With playoffs in the near future, Crosby’s progress is a good sign but far from promising.

Wednesday night’s game between the Colorado Avalance and Edmonton Oilers was bloody… both literally and figuratively.
Bleeding badly from a cut sustained when Taylor Hall‘s skate sliced his face in the first period, Avalanche defenceman Ryan O’Byrne managed to skate off the ice on his own. A look at some of the upcoming rule changes along with the new Illegal Hits to the Head rule and other points of emphasis this season.
I. ILLEGAL CHECK TO THE HEAD (48.1) A lateral or blindside hit to an opponenet where the head is targeted and/or the principal point of contact is not permitted.
48.2 MINOR PENALTY There is no provision for a minor penalty for this [48.1] rule.
In violation of an illegal check to the head, an automatic game misconduct and major or match penalty shall be given. A player will also face possible supplimentary discipline.

Nashville Predators goalie, Pekka Rinne, has his twig to thank after the stick performed an amazing save in overtime on Sunday against the Edmonton Oilers! But the most amazing part about it was that Rinne wasn’t actually holding the stick at the time.
